1. Wranglers - New for the 2008 Season
2. Exhibition Runs - New for the 2008 Season
3. Safety - Rules and Guidelines

WRANGLER RULES:
PSMSA Wrangler Guidelines For the 2008 Season.

 a) In the Wrangler Class the Parent/Legal Guardian and a qualified Range master shall be present at the firing line. One of these adults is to be responsible for handing the live firearm to the Wrangler competitor.

 b) WRANGLERS should not be given a time for their shooting; instead they would receive only penalties for missed balloons. Timing encourages fanning, which should not be allowed. Riders will run all courses and shoot five rounds while standing on the ground. Ten rounds in a state or regional match.

c) All ages are as of January 1st of calendar year.

d) There will be two classes of Wrangler, Open & Limited as follows: Open 10-11 and Limited 7-9.

e) All Open wranglers shall wear holsters and either non-firing replica or unloaded competition firearms. All Open wranglers shall ride to and aim at all balloons and change guns.

f) All wranglers and their horses shall be pre-qualified by the range master for safe riding skills and demonstrate the ability to control their horse and guns on their own.

g) On the rundown riders must stay in between the rundown and the extra cones placed approximately 25 ft on each side of the rundown. Anyone riding outside that area will be accessed a 10 second penalty.

h) All wranglers shall ground shoot with eye protection and ear protection. A missed balloon is a 5 second penalty.

i) All wranglers must follow the clothing guidelines set for all CMSA competitors.

EXHIBITION RUNS:
  2008 EXHIBITION RUNS
1. A maximum of 10 riders per stage on Saturdays only.

2. Cost per ride is $15

3. You have a maximum of 60 seconds in the arena once you engage the course. If your horse has not engaged the course in 60 seconds, you must leave the arena.

4. All runs are first come, first serve.

5. You can not ride a horse that is entered in the main match, except for the following 2 exceptions:

   a. You are a new rider entered in the match and your horse will not engage the course or you are having problems. You may pay for an experienced competitor to ride your horse in an exhibition run (see match director if this occurs).

   b. You are not a competitor in the match, but came to watch and want to try it. The run will cost $20, we will provide the horse and guns if necessary. You may only do this for one stage, one time.

6. Except for the above, exhibition riders must be entered into the main match to exhibition and may not ride their main match horse or any other horses entered into the main match.

SAFETY RULES and GUIDELINES:
All contestants are responsible for their own personal safety and that of their horse. They should also remain alert for other unsafe conditions and/or unsafe conduct by others and please inform the match director of any concerns.

A. All firearms shall be treated as if they are loaded.

B. All loading of firearms should be done immediately before getting ready to run the next stage, not after completing a stage. Please keep the muzzle of your guns facing down when indexing.

C. No firearm shall be cocked until immediately prior to engaging a target or crossing the timing line for the safety of horses and people standing around the arena.

D. Riders have final responsibility to make sure their firearms are loaded, check for missing or dented primers, cylinders rotate freely and to be certain they are properly indexed prior to stage engagement.

E. Competitors are expected to compete safely within their individual capabilities at all times. Do not try to “over ride” your own horsemanship skills.

F. All contestants shall be knowledgeable and proficient in the safe use of firearms. If you are not comfortable with loading your firearm, please ask an experienced competitor to assist you.

G. All New Shooters please see Match Director at the loading table immediately following the safety meeting.

H. CMSA recommends the use of eye protection and ear protection at all CMSA sanctioned matches, parents please have eyes and ears available for the wranglers when shooting, if possible. If you don’t have any, we will provide them for the wranglers.

I. Please do not approach the Range Master while on duty, it is a tough job and we want to make any penalty calls as accurate as possible. Any questions on a call should go directly to the match director with your $50 for appeal. An arbitration board has been choosen and will inform you of their decision. Your $50 will be refunded if the decision rules in your favor.

J. Parents or guardians of wranglers or their designate person may be in the arena when the wrangler competes. The wranglers will need to rider the course on their own.

K. Deliberate gun twirling in an arena shall be a 5 second penalty.

L. Please do not tie your horse to the red rail around the announcers booth. The rail is not as sturdy as it may seem.

M. Horse abuse, this is your warning, anything will result in disqualification.
